Entertainment is for losers

Remember when you were a kid, and you had to clean your room, do chores and basically grow up? Well, I used to be really good at doing chores, making my bed, cleaning my room, doing the dishes, feeding the animals (on the farm), and just helping out. Recently however, I've discovered that I hate doing all of those things. Anything that resembles responsibility I run from. I'm not sure why this is, perhaps I've become lazy. This is hard to admit, who wants to be lazy? I don't make my bed hardly ever anymore, I dislike doing the dishes or my laundry, and I procrastinate in doing things that I always used to do. So now I must ask myself what happened. Along the road somewhere I must have hit a bump and thus caused me to want to sleep in more in the mornings, and not spend hours studying for my midterms (although I still do study for several hours for my midterms). I now have trouble sleeping at night (there is so much to figure out, so much to do), and generally I've decided that I feel pretty lousy about myself. This lazy habit has got to go. I've decided that I need to stop doing certain things in order to really grow up. After all, grown ups aren't allowed to be lazy, it just doesn't work for the journey of being successful. To succeed in growing up, I've made a list of the things that are absolutely not needed! (this will no doubt be helpful for you to grow up as well...so read on and take notes)

1. Msn is evil- do not use it ever! No exceptions.
2. Internet browsing is a time waster, go to the library instead and read a "real" book.
3. Do not sleep in, unless it is a Saturday.
4. Do not laugh ever, it makes one look immature.
5. TV is not a positive educational source, it is a junk box.

Things to do in order to be successful:
1. Always keep learning, become the walking, talking dictionary
2. Fall out of love, it keeps the butterflies at bay, and everyone knows that butterflies the the biggest distraction on the job.
3. Go to bed early, and wake up early. The saying "early bird gets the worm" is true.
4. Make your bed every day, do your laundry, the dishes, readings for class, and other chores with a smile. No one will be able to understand why you are smilin'...
5. Go to church, and actually pay attention.
6. Read books.
7. Take photos of random objects and call it "art."
9. Stay in contact with friends overseas so in case the above doesn't work, and one cannot grow up, then one could move overseas and disappear for awhile, and come back a changed person who actually enjoys doing the dishes. Alas, when will that day come?

[ not recommended for entertainment sake, entertainment is for losers, DO TRY THIS AT HOME]

They don't teach this...

Null Curriculum: what is not taught in schools.

They don't really teach you about cancer in schools, or why some things aren't fair. Therefore I must learn through my experience. The things they teach in school must be more important. I mean, surly that mathematical equation can explain to me how to deal with illness and the memories I'll never have, or the hard memories that I will have. Surely that geographical information will be helpful when I'm in a hospital room, wishing I wasn't there. Surely that spelling test was more important than the moral decisions I have to face everyday. Surely our education systems know what's important, and the rest must be irrelevant...all this time, I never knew a time like this.

A drive through the park, a wonderful day

Today was a really nice day, no matter how hard it was to wake up this morning! I got some marks back on my papers that I have been waiting for, for quite some time actually. I recieved two 85% and one 79% which makes me very happy. I only have one midterm left, and I have completed my papers due for this week. It feels great. Then I decided to listen to a new CD that my sister sent me, and wow. There was this one song that made me feel like I was in heaven. In fact, I hope that I can hear it there. Wow. I then went on to drive through the park and listen to this song with my mum. It was a lot of fun, it was foggy out and really beautiful. I wish that people would stop and enjoy God's goodness more often.

Grace and Peace,
Amy

p.s. I've decided that I'm a radical...a radical among my university peers.

Christmas, a little early

I was asked today what I would like for Christmas. I actually had no idea, there was nothing coming to mind that I needed or wanted. In other words, I am blessed, and God is taking good care of me. Then, I saw a website, and I found through some browsing, there was something that I wanted for Christmas. To actually make a difference for some other people. I think that maybe you will find the following site interesting, and maybe it will help you decide what you would like for Christmas.

Take a look around, and let me know what you think. Merry Christmas...a little early.
